Where did Crawford's Casting begin?

Alan Crawford graduated from the University of New South Wales with a B.Sc (Ind. Arts) Hons.in 1972. He was an Industrial Arts high school teacher from 1973 – 1988. During that time he became involved in sculpture and the process of art casting. For four years Alan taught mould making and foundry techniques at the “Tin Sheds”, Sydney University to Fine Arts and Architecture students. In 1988 Alan left teaching to establish his own art foundry.

How has Crawford's Casting established itself today?

Currently based in Strathfield South, Crawford's Casting has been involved with many of the well-known monuments around Sydney, including both the Diggers on Anzac Bridge, Henry Parkes in Centennial Park and the fountains in Martin Place, The Bull on the corner of Pitt and Liverpool Street and nine of the twelve figures surrounding the Sydney Cricket Ground and Allianz Stadium.

Crawford's Casting is also been involved in the repair and maintenance of many Sydney artworks and memorials including, the Archibald Fountain in Hyde Park, El Porcellino at the Sydney Eye Hospital, Governor Bligh in the Rocks, War and Peace at the AGNSW, and memorial in Regimental Square Sydney. We have also advised and worked in conjunction with Australia's prominent conservation companies.

In 2005 Alan was re-joined by his son Matthew (B.Sc. Hons) and together with their experienced team of founders and technicians they continue to provide some of the highest quality castings and finishes in Australia. On Alan's retirement, Matthew has taken over business ownership and operation of Crawford's Casting with a goal to maintain the quality of casting established by his father during the previous 37 years.
